Veteran's Day 2012

My deepest gratitude, respect, and admiration to all who have or are now serving in the Armed Forces and their families.

These men and women are the truest heroes that the world has.

I am very proud to have the liberties that we have today, because of those that have or are now fighting to protect my freedom.

To my family, Thank You!
Grandpa (WWII - Merchant Marine), Uncle (WWII - US Navy ), Dad (Korea - US Air Force), Brother (Vietnam - US Air Force), Son (US Marine - stateside), Cousin (currently serving aboard US Naval Ship)

Be proud and stand up patriotically for yourself and your country!

(The following videos are primarily American, however this tribute is also for the Canadian Forces and all our Allied Forces)

My father and brother both served time as crew on 'Angel Flights' and agreed that this was one of the hardest but most rewarding of all their duties during their military service. This video in honor of them and all of the crews of the 'Angel Flights'.

For all of those who made the ultimate sacrifice and their families.

Thank you to all our Armed Forces personnel and their families for the many sacrifices they have and do make on a daily basis.

  4. Thanks Cat. Like I said over at Lillie's all my uncles served in WWII. My dad was in Korea. Two of my uncles never spoke about there time. My one uncle received a Purple Heart for saving soldiers in battle.
    We all should remember.

    1. Thanks to all your relatives Minelle and know that this is in honor of them also. None of my relatives spoke much about their times either although my dad and brother did talk about their service aboard the 'Angel Flights'. Dad received a Purple Heart for saving a flight crew whose plane was on fire and Uncle received a Purple Heart for saving some of his shipmates when his ship was torpedoed and sunk. But neither one would talk about it. You are so right Minelle, we should all remember.

      Blessings,
      Cat

  5. Thank you, Cat, a beautiful tribute that left me in tears. Angel flights - has to be the hardest duty there is, and those who serve escort, they don't take it lightly. May we always be mindful that freedom isn't free.

    1. Thank you June for your beautiful words. Dad and D were both proudest of their service on the Angel Flights and you're right, they never took it lightly.

I totally agree with you June - may we always be mindful that freedom isn't free.

Please pass my thanks on to Ward for his service to our country and know that this tribute is for both of you also. Sending (((Hugs))) and prayers to both of you.

  9. I have several family members who served during wartime, overseas initiatives, and here in the States during peacetime. My nephew currently is in the Air Force - gosh, just yesterday he was a tiny baby.

I used to work with many people who served military time in a variety of arenas, then joined the reserves in their branch of service. Most were/are Marines, but all branches were represented by my coworkers - my work family and friends. Many of them were called to active duty at one time or another, and we prayed for their safe return. I'm saying am extra special prayer for them every day now, knowing the changing level of support given to them. Be safe, fellas and fems. Godspeed home.

  10. Whew. Friday, I stood beside my tall, grown son as we watched a Veteran's Day program that was put on at Little Man's school. Little Man's class sang "I love my country" and he smiled and waved to his Big Brother, while I fought tears of pride and fear and thankful blessings. In a few short weeks, I will watch my tall, too-quickly-grown son raise his hand and swear an oath to defend our great country. Thanks for a beautiful post, Cat!

    1. Aww Rogue - I do understand the pride in seeing this strong, honorable young man who just yesterday was a baby in your arms swearing to protect his country and the fear that you will no longer be right there to protect and shield him. You, he and the rest of your family are in my prayers.

      Blessings,
      Cat
